Homelessness Action Week (HAW) is an annual week long series of events that focuses on bringing public awareness and understanding to the issue of homelessness. During this week, events are hosted for homeless and at-risk families and individuals, but the public is also invited to get involved by attending events, volunteering, or simply by starting the conversation with your family, friends and colleagues about homelessness in the community and potential solutions moving forward.
On the North Shore, a number of HAW events are coordinated by the North Shore Homelessness Task Force in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, local municipalities, community social organizations, churches, volunteers, and many amazing local businesses who support the event and make it possible. To learn more about HAW, we invite you to read the report from our 2014 event. The full roster of 2015 events will be released soon – stay tuned!
SAVE THE DATE! This year Connect Day on the North Shore, our biggest event during HAW, is on Thursday, October 15th, 9am – 2pm at John Braithwaite Community Centre. This event provides free on-the-spot medical services, housing and employment outreach, haircuts, a beautiful thanksgiving lunch put on by Salvation Army, and much more. See the link above for more information. Volunteers are also still needed on this date. If you are interested, please fill in the Volunteer Application Form or contact us for more information!
